The Upper Loup Natural Resources District With its regional office at Thedford, The Upper
Loup Natural Resources District is one of twenty three Natural Resource Districts
across the state of Nebraska. It began operating in 1972 as a subdivision of the state
government in all Blaine, grant, Hooker, Logan and Thomas Countries and parts of Brown,
Cherry and McPherson Countries. The task of the NRDs the management and supervision of the
natural recourses including erosion control, water monitoring, tree planting programs,
wildlife management and grazing land management.
General manager Helen White, resourse technician TJ Brown, administrative secretary Angie Jensen, and resource technician Jack Brummet The NRD is governed by a board of directors. The board members serve 4-year terms and are elected by the public. The current board members are Steve Boyer, Byron Cox, Wayne Eatinger, Ginger Fouse, Louis Jacobson, Travis Hansen, Joan Marland, Judy Ridenour, Gary Schaeffer, Marvin Schmitz and Eric Storer. The board establishes programs and policies. The local NRD office is led by general manager Helen White, administrative secretary Angie jensen, recourse technicians JackBrummet and TJ Brown and NRCS field office secretary Cleo Jacobs.
The responsibilities of
each NRD reach form flood control, water quality soil conservation to forestry, range and
wildlife habitat. The Upper Loup NRD offers cost share programs for a variety of projects
to support and encourage things like windbreaks, well abandonment, pivot conversions,
planned grazing practices and soil testing. Scholarships are available
